How QCG Manages a Reinforcement and Formwork Package
QCG manages every reinforcement and formwork package through a defined process — from enquiry and drawings review to pre-pour sign-off and close-out documentation.
Step 01: Enquiry and drawings review
Submit an enquiry with project details and structural drawings. QCG reviews the reinforcement schedules, formwork requirements, and programme and responds within one business day. Packages cannot be scoped or priced without structural drawings.
Step 02: Scope confirmation and material planning
QCG confirms the package scope — what is included and what is not — against the structural drawings. Reinforcement quantities are taken off from the drawings. Formwork requirements are confirmed against the pour sequence and structural loads.
Step 03: Pre-construction documentation
Site-specific SWMS, reinforcement inspection checklists, ITP, and hold point registers are prepared before work commences on site.
Step 04: Formwork installation
Formwork is installed to the approved system and set-out. Level, alignment, and construction joint locations are verified before reinforcement installation begins.
Step 05: Reinforcement installation and inspection
Reinforcement is installed to the structural drawings. Bar chairs are placed throughout. Lap lengths, development lengths, and cover are verified during installation. On completion, a full pre-pour inspection is conducted and the hold point is signed off before concrete placement is authorised.
Step 06: Documentation and close-out
Inspection records, hold point sign-offs, and ITP completion are compiled and provided to the head contractor or project manager at close-out.

Cover managed during installation requires a bar chair and a tape measure.

Concrete cover is maintained through bar chair installation throughout the reinforcement scope. Bar chair type and spacing are selected based on the cover requirement specified in the structural drawings and the exposure classification of the element under AS 3600. Minimum cover requirements under AS 3600 typically range from 30mm for elements in interior environments to 50mm or more for elements exposed to moisture, aggressive conditions. Cover is verified during the pre-pour inspection and any deficiencies are corrected before the inspection is signed off. Cover management is a line item in QCG’s inspection checklist, not a passing assumption.
What is the pre-pour inspection process?
Before any concrete is placed on a QCG reinforcement and formwork package, a structured pre-pour inspection is conducted covering reinforcement placement against the structural drawings, concrete cover at sample points, lap lengths and development lengths, formwork condition and level, set-out accuracy, and cast-in items where applicable. The inspection is documented against the structural drawings and signed off as a hold point. Concrete placement does not proceed until the hold point is signed. The signed inspection record forms part of the QA close-out documentation.
